File Services
NEED
File Service is a fundamental technology that enables data exchange inside the organization. File Servers that activate basic services on themselves like distributed files and security features are easy to configure, but then again many enterprises require a higher level of management, updating and availability.
SOLUTION
File Services offer the following components:
DFS
Distributed File System integrates files distributed on different servers into a hierarchal structure that surfaces as a single large capacity hard disc. The Users can use directories and data without any name or location of physical servers. The DFS also provides higher availability, optional disc space updating, overload disc distribution and simpler maintenance.
Disc Quota
Windows Server systems provide disc quota with a function that affects the Users and the quantity of data they can have on the file server. Once enabled, this option includes every User who has their own files and alerts the Users when they approach their assigned quota.
FRS
File Replication Service provides an option for file replication in the SYSVOL shared file on the domain controller and in the DFS shared files. The FRS detects file modifications and replicates them on other servers connected into this type of topology. Since the FRS is a multi-master replication service, any Member can carry out modifications over other Members. The FRS can resolve the conflicts arising between the files on different Member servers.
Shadow Copies
Shadow Copies for distributed files provide a copying option for these files connected with a specific point in time. With these copies, the Users can promptly retrieve a deleted or a modified document without any Administrator’s assistance, and thus increase their productivity.
Offline Folders
This option can be used for laptop and desktop computers with occasional connections with the local network. It increases exploitability inside the organization.
The files selected to be in the offline folders are automatically accessible from the server on the local computer. These files are still accessible on the local computer in the offline mode, and subsequent to reconnection, the modified files will be synchronized with the files on the server.
Roaming Profile
Roaming profile allows the Users in the domain to log into another computer and have an access to files and features from their own computers.
Backup
All services and data on file servers can be backed up to prevent the risk of data loss due to accidental deleting or hardware failure. We offer and implement the following backup tools: Symantec BackupExec and NetBackup, HP Data Protector and Microsoft Data Protection Manager.
BENEFIT
The data and files are stored both locally, on the Users’ computers, and on the server. Sharing with other organizational Users and authorization principles are simplified, the User can perform a large number of tasks without any Administrator’s assistance. In the event of data loss, the data can be easily retrieved from the file server, which backs itself up. The Users have an easier access to files from another organizational computer, and are not limited to their computers only. The file synchronization on the server is automatic and the Users do not need to be concerned with this process at all.
